How long does it take to wean yourself off of xanax

Every weekday, a CNNHealth expert doctor answers a viewer question. On Tuesdays, it's Dr. Charles Raison adderall percocet and alcohol, an associate professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Emory University, and an expert in the mind-body connection for health. Sadly, there are probably more wrong ways to detox off Xanax than right ones. This is one of the reasons Xanax has fallen from favor in the last decade.

I have been taking Xanax for 25 years for Fibromyalgia and Anxiety. I am trying to wean myself off of it. Has anyone done this? I would also recommend that you check out the following discussion thread where tapering off benzodiazepines has been discussed by many other members. Liked by Colleen Young, Connect Director. I think one of the best reasons to get off from Benzos is not only are they addicting they also cause depression.

Alprazolam, or Xanax brand nameis a medication known as a benzodiazepine that is used to treat anxiety disorders, panic attacks and other related psychiatric disorders. Alprazolam and other benzodiazepines increase the action of a neurotransmitter, or chemical messenger in the brain, called GABA. Long-term use of alprazolam may cause dependence or addiction, and abruptly discontinuing use of alprazolam may result in severe withdrawal symptoms.

I wanted help with this. What does it feel like to come off Xanax?

Benzodiazepines are a class of medications used for anxiety, insomnia, panic attacks and other medical disorders. The GABA system helps us to feel calm and relaxed when we are under stress or feeling upset. This helps us feel calm and relaxed. It can also help us to sleep.

How to Quit the Drug Safely. Xanax is a highly addictive drug of the benzodiazepine class. Whenever it is taken recreationally, for an extended period, or in larger doses than prescribed, both physical and mental dependence upon the drug is highly likely.

Withdrawal from Xanax can be dangerous and should never be done without the supervision of medical professionals. Luckily, effective medical detox options are available to help you recover from the effects of Xanax abuse. These people also increase their likelihood of suffering from withdrawal. Withdrawal occurs when a person who is physically dependent on Xanax suddenly stops taking it.

Your dosage, drug form, and how often you take the drug will depend on:. The kidneys of older adults may not work as well as they used to. This can cause your body to process drugs more slowly.

We will focus on the physical effects, since the main focus at hand is Xanax and Alcohol abused in combination. However, it is prudent to mention some of the outlying long-term effects of alcohol abuse.

Alcohol addiction. People drink for hundreds of reasons, but people are prescribed Xanax for two reasons: Sometimes alcohol may be used by those prescribed.
