The interaction may be more likely if you are elderly, undergoing alcohol or drug withdrawal, have a history of seizures, or have a condition affecting the central nervous system such as a brain tumor or head trauma. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with these medications.
I have had RLS for about ten years now but recently discovered after a serious ankle fracture that Tramadol completely eases my restless legs. Last week I went to the doctors for an unrelated issue, and have been prescribed the anti-depressant Sertraline Zoloft, or Lustral, depending on where you're from. According to the leaflet you cannot mix Tramadol and Sertraline together or you risk Serotonin poisoning, so the doc prescribed me some Diazepam for the RLS in the mean time. Has anyone come across this before? If so,is it safe Well, another problem you might be having is anti-depressants except maybe Wellbutrin usually make RLS worse. I take an ssri and it really has made my rls worse.

First, tramadol, as well as all of the SSRI antidepressant medications fluoxetine, paroxetine, citalopram, etcincrease the concentration of serotonin in the synaptic cleft of two connecting serotonergic neurons found in the midline raphe nuclei within the brainstem. The neuronal pathways influenced by this include the rostral end of this system, which is known to regulate affective behavior, wakefulness, thermoregulation and food intake. While there are 7 families of serotonin receptors 5-HT1 through 5-HT7it appears that excessive binding of serotonin to 5-HT2A and possibly to 5-HT1A are the pathways and tramadol likely to result in and tramadol symptoms described above.
