The Food and Drug Administration reported this week that the mg dose of generic bupropion, sold under the name Budeprion XL and made by Impax Laboratories and Teva Pharmaceuticals is being removed from the market because it doesn't work as it should. The move does not apply to the brand name version of the drug, Wellbutrin XL, or other generic versions of bupropion.

In the past I have taken both brand name and generic Wellbutrin XL and noticed a significant difference. Any opinions on what the best generic is?

One of the questions I get asked most often, by people outside of the drug industry, is whether generic medications really are the same as the original branded ones. My answer has always been the same: The problem here is bupropion brand name Wellbutrin , the well-known antidepressant.
