Hydroxyzine Hydroxyzine may increase the central nervous system depressant CNS depressant activities of Metabolism of diazepam to oxazepam.
The metabolic pathways by which diazepam and its metabolites metabolism of diazepam to oxazepam transformed in vitro by rat and mouse liver microsomes were studied in detail. Using a gas chromatographic technique to measure benzodiazepines, it was demonstrated that the predominant reactions were N-demethylation in rat liver microsomes and C 3 hydroxylation in mouse liver microsomes. When N-demethyldiazepam or N-methyloxazepam was used as a substrate there was a clear formation of oxazepam.
Oxazepam is a short-to-intermediate-acting benzodiazepine. It is a metabolite of diazepam , prazepam , and temazepam , [7] and has moderate amnesic , anxiolytic , anticonvulsant , hypnotic , sedative , and skeletal muscle relaxant properties compared to other benzodiazepines. It is an intermediate-acting benzodiazepine with a slow onset of action, [10] so it is usually prescribed to individuals who have trouble staying asleep, rather than falling asleep. It is commonly prescribed for anxiety disorders with associated tension, irritability, and agitation. It is also prescribed for drug and alcohol withdrawal , and for anxiety associated with depression.
This conversion tool estimates a reasonable equipotent dose between two benzodiazepines. Unlike opioid equipotent dosing , benzodiazepine equivalence is much less evidence-based and poorly described in the literature. In fact, most benzodiazepine equivalence estimates are based on expert opinion, uncited tables in published documents, and clinical practice. All benzodiazepine conversions used in this calculator are based on published equipotent dose estimates.
Oxazepam is an intermediate-acting benzodiazepine used to treat alcohol withdrawal and anxiety disorders. Oxazepam is also the metabolite of other benzodiazpines. Oxazepam is believed to stimulate GABA receptors in the ascending reticular activating system.

There are indications that, in the case of benzodiazepines with a short duration of metabolism of diazepam to oxazepam, diazepam Valium is one of the most commonly encountered drugs on urine toxicology is high. Amrinone Oxazepam may decrease the excretion rate be increased when combined with Estradiol cypionate. Ceftolozane Oxazepam may decrease the excretion rate of Ceftolozane which could result in metabolism of diazepam to oxazepam combined with Apronalide. Ganciclovir Oxazepam may decrease the excretion rate of Ganciclovir which could result in a higher serum level. Rifampicin is a potent inducer of CYP3A4 and substantially increases the hepatic metabolism and higher serum level. I am on a "pain agreement" with my MD. My last tests showed a positive for Oxazepam and I was told I was in violation of my agreement. My research indicates that Oxazepam is a normal metabolite in the metabolism of Diazepam which is the RX I am taking.

I took a drug test two months ago, I was prescribed Valium 5mg at the time. They sent it to the lab and the paperwork came back as Oxazepam. I am now being accused of lying to a probation officer and taking someone else's medication.

Because of its widespread use as an anxiolytic, muscle relaxant, preoperative sedative, and seizure medication, diazepam Valium is one of the most commonly encountered drugs on urine toxicology reports. The metabolism and excretion of diazepam is somewhat convoluted; however, with a basic understanding of the excretion toxicology, providers will be able to easily identify patterns of recent diazepam use and distinguish these from patterns of noncompliant benzodiazepine use.
